Redefining Deterrence And Regional Balance
The dawn of 10th May 2025 witnessed an operation that describes the idea of a solid, immovable wall that serves as a metaphor –“Marka-e-Haq” for the resolve of a nation. It is a new chapter in the defense doctrine of Pakistan. It is based on assertiveness and concrete steps against manipulation and controversial warfare imposed by the malicious entities and hostile actors in the region and beyond.
This act disseminates the message of Pakistan’s long standing in the region as well as shows its determination to restore areas that have been in chaos for a long time because of insurgency, ideological manipulation, and proxy wars which further ensures peace and stability in the region by thwarting non-state actors and their enablers in the region. Without any hint of apology set in stone, the mission has prevented the enemy from finding safe havens, disassemble the militant infrastructure, render the leadership cadres ineffective, and disrupt the command-and-control nodes.
Moreover, making sure that collateral damage is kept to a minimum and regaining the trust of the citizens which is a critical step of enduring success of both state and the military. Operation Bunyanum Marsoos was a multidimensional strike matrix converging air, cyber, and electronic warfare domains. It served as a befitting reply to the enemy and reasserted Pakistan’s enduring standing in the region. It indicates an updated strategy of proactive involvement, adjusted to fit the multifaceted character of contemporary challenges which includes traditional warfare, ideological conditioning, prevent non-state actors and psychological campaigns are deeply intertwined with one another.
Pakistan is criticised of being reactive, fragmented or inconsistent in its approach to non-state actors, but through Marka-e-Haq, its determination and consistency has proved to no longer permit non-state actors and its supporters to disrupt its internal security.
Moreover, Pakistan’s pro-active response was launched under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter international law, which is a right of self-defense. China reaffirmed its support during the conflict to Pakistan.
Iran also showed itself for mediation and cease fire. The news of arrival of planeloads from Turkey at Karachi port added into the uneasiness in the Delhi.
Eventually, the U.S played a major role in ensuring a cease fire between the two. This retaliation showed Pakistan’s responsibility and precision even in the tough times by making decisions under the laws.
Pakistan has not only shot down five of India’s aircrafts including three Rafale, MiG-29, and SU-30 and several UAVs, and targetted various military facilities, however, it redefines the deterrence in the region. Due to continuous naval patrolling, India’s Navy did not dare to make the ocean a theater of May 2025 crisis. Pakistan has justified its doctrine of sea denial and achieved it fully by stopping India’s aggression in its oceanic zones.
On the other hand, INS Vikrant and other technological advancements in the maritime sphere by India in the region has not maintained its sea control posture. The effectiveness of the mission is solely measured by the number of enemy casualties or the destruction of their asset’s aircrafts. It also evaluated on the bases on its capacity to reaffirm the moral standing and legitimacy of the state in regions where its authority is being challenged. As well as the public support, it shows its trust in its institutions, leadership, and military doctrine.
Operation Bunyanum Marsoos transcends mere military operations and encompasses a broader scope of activities and initiatives. Pakistan is currently in a position where it is resolutely safeguarding its future, acting as a steadfast and unwavering barrier against the overwhelming force of disorder and confusion.
The continuation of its existence will be contingent upon the events that ensue thereafter. The success of the operation not merely shows resilience and national unity but it reaffirms to the world to witness Pakistan’s ability and endeavours not only to protect its territories, but determine and sustain the security environment in the region and act as a shield against chaos and aggression.
